Jones thanks O'Donnell for his autograph collectiing help and mentions a book he is writing that will discuss a noted forgery. He tells an anecdote in which General Daniel Van Buren mistook Noah Webster for John W. Webster in the Webster-Parkman murder case and was also confused as to who murdered who. He mentions Laurence Hutton "as good hearted a chap as I ever knew" and his help in obtaining autographs. He concludes by thanking O'Donnell for his good wishes "but a man of 62 who has overworked his heart in practicing law, running railroads, and living a N.Y. life...hasn't much left for him to do but to engage in a wild speculation in cemetery lots."
